Healthy Communities Delaware Executive Director Kate Dupont Phillips, MPH was named one of Delaware Today’s 35 Women Breaking Barries Across Industries. She was nominated and interviewed for the Gift Guide | Holiday celebrations issue, talking about health equity and social justice, collaboration, and (of course) the Vital Conditions.
“I was inspired to enter public health because the goal of the field is to improve health for whole populations or communities, not individuals,” she said. “We can only get so far if we go person by person. Also, despite our knowledge and behavior as individuals, there are influences on our health and well-being that are outside of our control—the policies and systems we interact with every day and the communities in which we live, learn, work, and play. We need to improve those things at a large scale in order for all Delawareans to have the opportunity to thrive.”
Dupont Phillips also highlighted that, as a midcareer professional, she advocates for having a growth mindset and looking for opportunities to improve. In the list, she was joined by a host of savvy Delaware women, including Executive Director of the Rehoboth Art Leage Sara Ganter, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff of Beebe Healthcare Diane Taylor, and Founder/CEO of Take 15 Asia Coleman.
